GettaVet verifies all pros on this site to ensure they are active duty, retired military, a veteran, spouses or dependents ages 18-24. All of the latter are referred collectively as ‘veterans’ on this site.
All veterans and family members using the GettaVet platform as a ‘Service Provider,’ go through a background check when they subscribe.
Veteran’s per hour costs are posted within the platform and are based on the type of service being requested.
Acceptable forms of payment are Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club and JCB.
A 30% down payment of the total estimated amount of the job/service is required when you accept the veteran’s proposal to perform the work.
GettaVet uses Stripe, a third-party payment processor to handle payments between veteran providers and clients. Stripe is well established in the payment industry. Stripe has been audited by a PCI-certified (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) auditor and is certified to PCI Service Provider Level 1. This is the most stringent level of certification available in the payments industry. The cost to subscribe to GettaVet is a one-time fee of $10. This covers the background check and other startup costs. mple Description
GettaVet is an online marketplace for veterans, military retirees, active-duty military, and/or their spouses to post the services they can provide to the freelancing community. To ensure only the those who serve or served are on this site, we have partnered with GovX to verify your military service. You will be asked to provide enough information through GovX to verify your service. In this process, you will create a GovX account and may be asked to provide a copy of your DD Form 214 or other proof of military service. You may elect to use GovX after this process if you so choose. GovX does not keep your information – other than your GovX account – after the verification process.
GettaVet requires veterans to go through a background check when creating their account. (This requirement applies also to veteran’s spouses when they want to use this platform for freelance work.) This measure is simply to say to the public that 1) only military veterans use this site and 2) as an additional step, everyone has gone through a background check. The check is made by Barada Associates Inc, the same firm that handles background checks for other leading freelancing web sites.
To use the application, there is a 12% service fee deducted from the veteran’s total invoice, approximately 3% + goes to the third-party payment processor, Stripe. The remainder goes toward maintaining the service and platform for veterans and spouses.
GettaVet will expand to provide service across the country in the near term.
The requirement for licenses, registering, insurance, and bonds varies by locale across the country. Those seeking to display their bio and services on the GettaVet platform must ensure they meet local and state regulations.
Payment for services performed goes out weekly. On a 7-day schedule, payouts are made daily and contain payments processed seven calendar days prior. For example, payments received on a Tuesday are paid out by the following Tuesday.

Veterans and spouses using the GettaVet site will not receive a 1099-misc. Qualifying veterans will receive a 1099-K. To qualify for a 1099-K, the veteran will have received over $20,000 in pay. Veterans are responsible for reporting their income to the IRS.
